There were as many names for this darkness as there were cultures on the continent, and yet none of them ever truly captured it. There was no dimming, no soft surrender of light, no interval in which the eye might adjust. It arrived as extinction, just like the Witch Moon himself.

Unlike the measured grace of the Mother Moon, or the distant vigilance of the stars, T̰́̇ͦ̀è̸̷̸̬̤̗̊_̸̵̰̦̗̒͜ȟ̗̍ͤa̶͉͉͍̭̰̅̀̈͜ͅȓ̶̶̛̦͇͙̟̈̿͒ͮ͑̋̚͡u̟͖͔̖̙͙͆̄̿ͩͧ̃̽̓̈̌̀͟͞n shattered across the sky. He did not rise from the horizon, and neither did he descend towards it. Where ςεψ circumnavigated the world in solemn ceremony, he entered the visible heavens as a colossal transit, crossed the sky on a fixed and violent course, and was gone. If he resembled a comet, it was only in motion. Comets brought fire. They announced themselves with blazing tails, with matter made visible by excess. T̰́̇ͦ̀è̸̷̸̬̤̗̊_̸̵̰̦̗̒͜ȟ̗̍ͤa̶͉͉͍̭̰̅̀̈͜ͅȓ̶̶̛̦͇͙̟̈̿͒ͮ͑̋̚͡u̟͖͔̖̙͙͆̄̿ͩͧ̃̽̓̈̌̀͟͞n brought the opposite.

And yet, still, people called him a moon.
